Founded in 1769, the town’s name comes from the word Gay Na Bo, which means “Lugar de Agua Dulce” (Place of Fresh Water). There are both annual and ongoing events that may be of interest to you. The annual Cinemafest Puerto Rico, at the San Patricio Plaza, exhibits more than 100 films from around the world and is recognized by the International Film Critics Circle. Museo y Parque Histórico Ruinas de Caparra, /Frazier Nivens
In 1508 Juan Ponce de León built the first House-Fort in Puerto Rico on this site. It also served as the home for the first Spanish Colonial seat of government as well as the Catholic church.
This carnival, held since 1976, is named after the Indian chieftain Mabó. There is music, dance, shows, artist exhibits and food kiosks. The celebrations are closed with a colorful Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine).
This golf course is located on a military base in the heart of San Juan and civilians can play when accompanied by a Club member or military member. Its 2nd hole is 380 yards, par 4 facing west to east and view of silhouette of El Yunque. Holes/Yards: 9/3030.
